Professional Hobbies
What if your hobbies are actually useful in the real world but you still haven't figured that out...
As you might have already very obviously observed, this isn't my first blog. I still remember how I started blogging a year ago. I made this blog as part of an online course that required me to create my own blog and observe traffic of the website using Google Analytics. It was really fun and I'm thanking myself big time today for continuing it. Not for appreciation, not to show off, not to impress anybody, but for the sheer love of it.
If you have read my previous blogs, you will know that I'm a Master's student studying Business Analytics at Monash University, Melbourne. Guess how cool Monash is... I have a Unit that grades me for my blogging skills. Yeah, you read that right. I was so excited when one of my units required me to blog as part of the curriculum. "Communicating with Data" is a very important skill for a Business Analyst. How you convey your insights and findings and make an impact on the real world is what matters most about Analytics. I just completed my first technical blog and submitted it for evaluation! It's an open assessment that is published publicly and you can read about it if you're interested in Data Analytics. As part of my practice with R programming and documentation, I created a personal website from scratch that serves as a portfolio of all my analytics mini-projects. Yes, I do them for the sheer love of it, and this isn't graded. It's not all about marks, haha...
So the purpose of this post was to explain how hobbies (things you do for the love of it only) and anything you do in life will in some way help you grow as a person and benefit you in the long run. Like Steve Jobs mentioned, the dots can be connected backward only. You somehow know what you need to become and following your intuition helps you along your journey of life. Every successful person, as I have generally followed or watched, say one thing in common always; that they are really passionate about what they do! I guess that's the only difference between someone who is mediocre and someone who excels in whatever they do. Passion defines the level of success. It is essential to be aware of what you love and do it as often as possible. I now have personal experience of how hobbies can be useful and how one can turn them into a profession. Sportspeople, Film-makers, Artists, Scientists, and many other professional paths are actually a result of individuals pursuing their passion with utmost resilience. Do what you Love and Love what you do! Make your profession a hobby or your hobby a profession. When these two go hand-in-hand, you're bound to succeed both in life and career. The hobby part helps you relax and have fun and be happy, while the professional part of it earns you whatever you seek; fame, money, recognition, or whatever you define as your success!
Start any small thing that you have always wanted to do. Podcast, Blog, YouTube channel, Music, Dance, Sports, Art, or anything that ignites the sparks in your soul! You never know when it is going to be of use and how. Do it for the love of it and not with any agenda in mind. Let me know what you think in the comments. G'day! 😇
