Why MBA ?

Why should you consider an MBA for your career?

Hello reader! The last post was about following your own voice, deciding on what you want and do it. Okay so now you have decided upon something. What next?

There are certain questions you need to ask yourself. And find the right answers to them before you take up anything in your life. It is equally important to keep in mind the present trends, advice from experts in the field, your personal talents and many other factors along with listening to your heart. Follow your heart and intuitions but never forget the data and facts. The mind needs to work in coordination with the heart to make perfect management of resources! Your management starts right from there!

Management is the core of all industries. Gaining skills in such a domain will give you an edge over others. There are certain questions that you need to ask yourself first.

  • Is this going to help me get to where I want to be in the end ? ( If you haven't envisioned a goal do that first. Go big ! Don't be scared )
  • Will I do this with a passion to gain knowledge or just a mere degree ? Mind you, if you are clueless now, you won't be clear after you take up the degree. Make informed decisions always.
  • What domain of MBA suits me the most? Again, be informed as to what each specialization relates to. Keep in mind your personal traits in deciding this. This is what you'll work on for the rest of your life. It should suit what you are as a person.
The first two questions answer whether taking up a degree is worth your time. The third subsequently answers what domain you need to take up.

It is great to have a mentor who is experienced. But we do not always have this luxury. There are books and of course the Internet! Collect as much information as possible. Process the data. Analyse. Decide. Execute (Yes I am a Computer Science graduate and maybe this workflow is imbibed in all CS graduates' mind!)

There are people who never have a clue as to what they are doing and where it takes them. Yes, I fell into this category as well until now. Ask rational questions. Get the right answers and proceed. Some take up MBA because they hate their present job. Some take it up to change the domain of study. Some take it up to increase their salary and their worth in the eyes of an employer. Whatever your reason is, ask the right questions to yourself. Get the right answers (you always have them!) and proceed.

What you can do before taking up an MBA...

  • Online Courses - They help you understand each domain better and take better decisions.
  • Internships and Minor Projects - Gives you hands-on experience and knowledge.
  • Read Books - Helps you gain knowledge and keeps you informed.

ROI -

This is the most important part of our lives (and also business). What returns do I have after doing all this? Do I get paid as much or better than the money I have spent? Is the time and effort I have put in worth it?

In the end, no one can predict what's in store for you. Put in the efforts you need to. Enjoy the process. And try to get better each day. Enhance your personal brand. It isn't as great as the word seems to be. It is what you are as a person. It is what your self-worth and values are. The more value you can provide to people the better you will earn. If you want to make a lot of money, think of something that will help a lot of people! The only way to be selfish (make money) is to be unselfish (provide great value to a large number of people). Food for thought... Stay tuned for more posts :)
